In celebration of the end of term, all year groups have been on school trips this week, which have included Battlefield, Clip & Climb and more.

The partnership is made up of the council, the integrated care board (including all NHS providers), all schools and educational settings, adult social care services and our parent and carer forum including the wider voluntary and community sector who provide services for Torbay children and young people.

Up to ten inspectors will be examining the services that the Torbay local area provides to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The aim of the inspection will be to understand people’s experiences of SEND services in Torbay, and assess if the partnership:

• has improved upon the eight areas of weakness identified in the last
  inspection
• meets one of the three judgements regarding the quality of its services.

A big part of the inspection are service user surveys. This is your chance to have your say on how we deliver SEND services for our children and young people. There will be three surveys:

• One for children and young people
• One for parents and carers
• One for practitioners

If you are one of the above groups, please fill in a survey(s) as soon as possible. You will need do this by 9am on Tuesday 11 March.

The inspection team will be placing a lot of weight on the experiences of service users so it’s important that you complete an appropriate survey.

SENDIASS Torbay has offered to help parents and carers who need assistance filling out the surveys, or who can’t access them online. Call 01803 207884 or email sendiass@​torbay.gov.uk.

They will have a laptop and member of staff available and can either go through the survey with you over the phone or in person. This would be completely confidential.

Inspectors will also be looking at key cases and will speak to staff, service users, carers, and partners.

There are 20 holiday clubs in total – 9 in Torquay, 9 in Paignton and 2 in Brixham. All spaces are available for a maximum of 4 days over the holiday period, but because the holidays fall in a funny way this year, as you will be aware, there aren’t many available days to run holiday clubs so several of our providers are offering two days of face to face holiday clubs, and a remote offer for two days which will include an activity pack and hamper/food pack for children to take home following attendance at a holiday club. Spaces are also available to those who are Electively Home Educated.

The information outlines what is being offered in each town, who will be delivering this, the times and dates of the activities, and the instructions for parents/carers on how to book places.

We are thrilled to announce that the school's first 'Pupil Wellbeing Lead' has been voted in by our Pupil Voice panel. Harrison, pictured below, has an important role to play in representing the school by sharing ideas and suggestions to drive new initiatives and support the wellbeing of our pupils.  As Pupil Wellbeing Lead, Harrison will listen to his peers across all year groups and feed back to the Pupil Voice panel during termly meetings.

Harrison says "people come and talk to me because I listen to them".

We had non-uniform day and staff dressed up as their faviourite characters, which included The Boy In The Dress, a Smurf, Miss Trunchbull and Mr Bump.

We also had a competition to guess the staff member's favourite book!

Well done- we are all extremely proud of you.

We are pleased to inform you that we have arranged two separate football matches on two separate days for Year 7 and 8 on 24th November 2023, and Year 9 and 10 on 1st December 2023. The match will be played against learners from another school in the SPT Trust, creating PE links.

We want to promote positive interactions and wider social interactions in our school. For games to take place, attitude and behaviours must be good, and specifically for the week leading into the match, there must be no fixed term exclusions for participants.

This match will determine whether they continue to do activities of this nature. We hope it is a great success and we can repeat these games and more like them in the future.

Unfortunately, there will be no opportunities for parents and/or guardians to spectate, but this is something we are looking at for future fixtures.

The game will take place during the school day at Brunel School.
