Safeguarding:

We are a Trauma-Informed special school for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties. Our students are vulnerable, and you may hear some swearing or witness some bad behaviour during your visit. The safeguarding of our children is of paramount importance. Brunel School, along with the SPT MAT, are committed to safeguarding and recognise that safeguarding and child protection is everyone’s responsibility.

Brunel School maintains the attitude of “it could happen here”. Any child in any family, in any school could become a victim of abuse, harm, and/or neglect.

All those who come into contact with children through their everyday work or volunteering have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. All persons working with children must have undertaken a DBS.

If we have not had sight of your DBS certificate, you must not be unsupervised with children at our school.

The school aims to ensure that:

- Appropriate action is taken in a timely manner to safeguard and promote children’s welfare.

- All staff are aware of their statutory responsibilities with respect to safeguarding.

- Staff are properly trained in recognising and reporting safeguarding issues.

●          Tell the child they have done the right thing by telling you.

●          Explain what will happen next and that you will have to pass this information on.

●          Do not promise to keep a secret.

●          Write up the conversation straight away, sign and date it.

●          Refer the information to the DSL.
