Our Core Offer

Brunel School Curriculum Vision

At Brunel School, we have created a bespoke, inclusive and broad learning experience for all of our pupils, from whatever point in their educational journey they join us. We build relationships and learn together in a safe environment, aiming to instil a lifelong curiosity about learning in all its’ many forms and practical skills to navigate a diverse modern world.

From Year 7 to 11, pupils will experience an expanding, progressive curriculum that includes academic and vocational learning, social and emotional growth, and outdoor enrichment. Our curriculum, founded on our core concepts, has been developed from the ground up, with the school community having identified the key skills and attributes necessary for pupils to take advantage of future learning opportunities, live successful independent lives and make positive contributions to communities.

The Prosper programme, our therapeutic approach, identifies and works to address pupils’ specific barriers to learning and drives personal development. Pupils are supported to understand their own strengths and weaknesses, nurture emotional resilience and develop a toolkit of strategies they can deploy throughout their lives. A personalised pathway is identified; each pupil is supported to thrive, building on their personal strengths, whilst developing their voice and sense of self and of belonging, through our inclusive curriculum.

Progressing through the school, we promote pupils’ confidence and resilience with their learning; aiming to reflect and exceed their peers’ experience in mainstream schools to maintain a sense of real inclusion. We focus on consolidating pupils’ knowledge and understanding into transferable skills, essential for their future lives and identify aspirational career pathways for pupils to take. We provide highly personalised support to ensure they make the progress necessary to achieve their full potential.

Under section 45 of 'Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education', parents have the right to request that their child be withdrawn from some or all of sex education delivered as part of statutory RSE. Parents or carers wishing to exercise that right are asked to make an appointment to meet the PSHE Subject Leader to discuss their concerns. Please email admin@brunelschool.org.
