Remote Learning
At Brunel School, we are committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and trauma-informed remote learning experience that supports the academic, emotional, and social development of every pupil. There are times when a child is in crisis or transitioning into school after a period of time out of education, that a blended learning approach is needed to support a return to full-time education. At Brunel School, we are committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and trauma-informed remote learning experience that supports the academic, emotional, and social development of every pupil.
Our Approach
Personalised and Inclusive Learning: Through the Edclass platform, we deliver engaging and accessible lessons tailored to individual pupil needs. Our SENCO closely oversees the progress of pupils with EHCPs and SEND, ensuring remote learning aligns with their specific outcomes and personal development goals.
Collaborative Alternative Provision: For pupils attending off-site Alternative Provision (AP), we maintain strong communication channels. We receive weekly or daily reports from AP providers detailing attendance, engagement, progress, and any safeguarding concerns. This ensures we work collaboratively in the child’s best interests and meet their individual needs.
Pupil Placement Meeting and Triage: Pupils learning remotely are reviewed weekly in our Pupil Placement Meeting. This triage process evaluates the effectiveness of the provision, identifies emerging needs, and informs timely interventions to enhance learning and wellbeing.
Tutor and Family Engagement: Tutors maintain regular contact with families, discussing pupil progress, wellbeing, and any concerns. This partnership fosters a supportive environment that enhances engagement and emotional support during remote learning.
Quality Assurance of Placements: All AP placements undergo rigorous quality assurance reviews at least half termly. These include visits to AP settings when pupils are present, ensuring the provision meets our high standards and supports pupil progress effectively.
Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Safeguarding remains a top priority. Our pastoral team and designated safeguarding lead monitor pupil welfare closely, conducting regular welfare checks and responding promptly to any concerns raised during remote learning.
Monitoring and Support: Attendance and engagement are tracked through Edclass and direct communication with AP providers. This data informs personalised support, ensuring pupils remain motivated and connected to their learning community.
Reflecting Our Values: Our remote learning provision embodies Brunel School’s core values of integrity, love, availability, inclusion, compassion, safeguarding, and aspiration, creating a safe and nurturing virtual environment where pupils can thrive.
How to Access Remote Learning
Pupils and families access lessons and resources via the Edclass platform, which offers an intuitive and interactive learning experience. Our staff provide ongoing support to ensure all pupils can engage effectively with remote learning. Pupils may also have a referral into an Alternative Provision to support transition to school or to re-set after a time of crisis.
